Gladys R. Horst, 100, who just celebrated her centennial birthday, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Orrstown Personal Care Home. She was a resident there for several years and just absolutely loved living at the personal care home.
Gladys was born on March 12, 1925, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late George M. and Hazel R. (Myers) Diehl. She married David C. Horst on September 25, 1948, in the parsonage of the Orrstown United Brethren Church. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1980.
Gladys worked at the former Shirt Craft Co., Shippensburg, from 1943 until 1954, but was primarily a homemaker throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the Orrstown United Brethren Church.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Janice Gayman and husband Keith of Davenport, IA; two granddaughters, Emily Piette and husband Owen of Ainnsworth, IA, and Erin Taft and husband Scott of Coralville, IA; four great granddaughters, Gwen, Gretta, Anna, and Cora Piette, all of Ainnsworth, IA; one sister-in-law, Shirley Diehl of Orrstown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and spouse, Gladys was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Mackey, Dorothy Zullinger, and Esther Pugh; and two brothers, George and Harold Diehl.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor John Runshaw will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.
