Gladys Irene (Wadel) Halteman, 86, of Run Road, Carlisle, went to be with Jesus on Monday, January 13, 2014 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born April 17, 1927 in Southampton Township, Pa., the daughter of the late Harry and Emma (Shetter) Wadel. For 55 years, she was the wife of the late Willis A. Halteman Sr.
Mrs. Halteman was a loving mother of 13 children, 76 grandchildren, and 161 great grandchildren. She was very creative and often used her free moments to create beautiful handwork and quilting. For a number of years she had an extensive card ministry, constantly cheering her family, many friends, and church associates with cards and letters. She trusted in Jesus as her Saviour at a young age and was a member of the Blue Ridge Mennonite Church in the rural Carlisle area.
Surviving are her seven sons; Alvin (Lois) Halteman and Edwin (Evelyn) Halteman, both of Carlisle, Nelson (Kathy) Halteman of Mapleton Depot, Willis (Judy) Halteman Jr. of Mocksville, North Carolina, Dale (Anne) Halteman of Sligo, Dan (Marty) Halteman and Nevin (Laureen) Halteman, both of Newville; six daughters; Rachel (Wilbur) Weaver of Leetonia, Ohio, Esther (Stan) Reinford of Mt. Holly Springs, Janie (Jerry) Wile of Shippensburg, Leah (Stan) Horst of Columbiana, Ohio, Sarah (Phil) Mullet of New Bethlehem, and Lois Marie (Lowell) Witmer of Carlisle; a sister, Doris J. Sollenberger of Waynesboro, and two brothers; David N. Wadel of Washington Boro, and Joseph S. Wadel of Kippen, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by four brothers; Ralph I, John H, Paul J, and Mark Wadel.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Mennonite Church, located at 2514 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, Pa. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
