Gladys Pearl Barnes, 92, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, died on the morning of Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the home.
She was born August 9, 1921 in Greencastle, the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Ethel P. Brindle Statler and her step mother Nellie Crawford Statler. On August 31, 1940, Gladys married Harold J. Barnes in Waynesboro. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1990.
Gladys was a Book Keeper at the former Barnes Pontiac-American, Shippensburg.
She was a long-time member of Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg and was extremely active within the church. She was also a member of the Shippensburg Civic Club and the Fort Morris A.A.R.P. #2525. Gladys was very artistic and crafty. She was well known for her plaster of paris Nativity Scenes and jewelry that she made. She loved to be outdoors, gardening, and was very well versed in all of the native flora and fauna of South Central Pennsylvania. Gladys took great joy in spending time with all of her family.
Gladys is survived by her son, Harold L. (Sally J.) Barnes; her daughter, Marie E. (Dale E.) Kline, all of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Robyn N. (Brian) Carper of Selinsgrove, Stephen L. (Theresa) Barnes of Apex, NC, and Beth S. Barnes of Shippensburg; and four great grandchildren, Jenna, Hunter, Ryan, and Katelyn.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her twin brother, Glen Statler and older brother, Ken Statler.
Her funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton and Rev. Steven Livermore will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday, at the funeral home.
