Gertrude M. Lucas, 87, a resident of the Inn at Luther Ridge, died on the morning of Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on March 20, 1925, in Coulter, PA, the daughter of the late Robert M. and Rachel Hill Mahoney. On November 21, 1942, Gertrude married Mr. James J. Lucas in Pittsburgh, PA. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2005.
Gertrude was employed at Shippensburg University, as Secretary to the Dean of Students, retiring in June of 1988, after 20 years of work.
She was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg. In the past, Gertrude enjoyed playing cards in a monthly bridge club and she loved to garden and landscape around her home.
Gertrude is survived by three sons, James E. (Ruby) Lucas of Yucaipa, CA, Jeffrey A. (Bette) Lucas of Johnson City, TN, and Mark R. (Sheryl) Lucas of Clayton, NC; her daughter, Sheryl R. Snider of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Amy Lynn Barton of Chambersburg, Dylan J. (Mackie M.) Lucas of Wilson, NC, and Tyler S. Lucas, of Clayton, NC; and three great grandchildren, Destin J. and Ashlyn M. Barton and Landon P. Freet, all of Chambersburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert W. and Edward Mahoney.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Kimberley D. Wadlington will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the services on Friday, at church.
