Gerald Dennis Hunt, 70, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Friday, July 3, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on February 17, 1945, in Erie, the son of the late Wayne Richard and Leona Adams Hunt and married Ms. Charlene J. Gray on August 31, 1963, in Van Nyes, CA. Gerald was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1963 and honorably discharged in 1964; as well as the U.S. Army, enlisting on September 13, 1976, and honorably discharged on September 13, 1979.
Gerald worked in law enforcement in both his military and civilian careers. In the military he was an MP as well as a traffic accident investigator. As a civilian, he was a police officer/detective, a deputy sheriff, and he retired as a guard at the Letterkenny Army Depot, on February 29, 2012.
He was a member of the Greencastle Baptist Church and a post member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. Gerald had great affection for all animals and in his free time liked to shoot, hunt, and enjoyed classic cars.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene; three sons, Gerald Todd (Becky) Hunt and children Jewelia and Jadyn of Greencastle, Scott Allen (Lorrie) Hunt and children Cody Hunt, Dakota Brown, Kayla and Emily Rexroth of Shippensburg, Kaitlin Horn of Mercersburg and Kayla Gomez of Pittsburgh, and Charles Vernon (Karen) Hunt and children Kassidy and Erika of Fayetteville.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Donald Woody will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
