George A. Geedy, Jr., 88, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Green Ridge Village, Newville.
He was born on Saturday, August 29, 1925, in Carlisle, a son of the late George A. and Sara Hurley Geedy, Sr. George was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII enlisting February 22, 1945 and being Honorably discharge November 19, 1946
George retired in 1990 from the Glenn Miller Auto Parts Store and later retired in 2011 as a Sales Clerk from Pague & Fegan Hardware, both in Shippensburg.
He was a member of the Newburg First Church of God and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. In his free time, George enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty L. Wadel Geedy of Shippensburg; his daughter, Judith A. (Richard) Daihl of Shippensburg; granddaughter, Kimberly A. Berk of Carlisle; grandson, Scott R. (Kristen) Daihl of Enola; five great grandchildren, Devyn and Adam Berk, and Ava, Amelia, and Audrey Daihl, one sister, Mary Giles; two brothers, William and Kenneth Geedy; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newburg First Church of God, with Pastor John E. Byers and Pastor Wayne A. Good officiating. Burial will be private in the Newville Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburg First Church of God at 260 Newburg Road Newburg, PA 17240.
