George A. Earnest, 87, formerly of Greencastle, late of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, October 7, 2016, at his home.
He was born on January 7, 1929, in Carlisle, a son of the late Harry A. and Anna Viola Barbour Earnest. George was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy and a longtime member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319, Greencastle. After forty-one years together, he married Martha Jane Miller-Salisbury on April 21, 2014.
George was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot, working in Ordinance Disposal. He enjoyed reading his bible and watching Rev. Billy Graham and Rev. Robert Schuller on television. George loved to sing and play harmonica, go out to eat at family style restaurants, root for the N.Y. Yankees and Giants, and watch professional wrestling with his son Mickey.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; three children, Linda (Rick) Lepley of Carlisle, Lorrie McGonigal of Shippensburg, and Mickey A. Salisbury-Earnest of Shippensburg; two step-daughters, Tammy Lishinski of Mt. Holly Springs and Beverly (Tony) Bretzman of Gardners; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Raymond) Mundis of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Merle.
His funeral service, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Interment will also be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care at 2700 Luther Drive Chambersburg, PA 17202.
