Genevieve Reese

June 29, 1936 — December 1, 2014

Genevieve R. Reese, 78, of Newburg, died in the early morning hours of Monday, December 1, 2014, at her home.

She was born on June 29, 1936, in Spring Run, a daughter of the late Raymond and Clara Stake Rowles. On July 1, 1955, Genevieve married Chester L. ‘Chet” Reese in Hagerstown, MD, and was his caretaker for twenty one years, before he succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease on July 14, 2014.

In her younger years, Genevieve was employed at several of the former local-area garment factories. After marriage she took time as a mother and homemaker to raise her family; then returned to the work-force as a custodian, first at the Nancy Grayson Elementary School and second at Shippensburg University, where she retired from.

She was a long-time member of the Newburg First Church of God, where she also taught Sunday School; loved music, especially gospel hymns; and enjoyed collecting antiques and keeping track of their lineage. Genevieve was known to many as “The Cake Lady”; baking for many different occasions, and she was by all accounts, really very good at it.

She is survived by her four sons, Michael L. (Grace) Reese of Frederick, MD, Timothy S. (Kimberly) Reese of Newburg, Patrick S. (Chrystal) Reese of Athens, OH, and Micky R. (Julie) Reese of Goshen, IN; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Apple, Paul, Joey, Mark, Elsbeth, Nate, Kali, and Kate; four great grandchildren, Hera, Orion, Mason, and Malcom; two sisters, Judy (Robert) Mowers of Newburg and Bonnie (John) Oddo of Huntsville, AL; three brothers, Bernard (Wanda) Rowles of East Waterford, Ronald Rowles of Chambersburg; and Jackie (Wanda) Rowles of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, December 8, 2014, at the Newburg First Church of God, Newburg. The Rev. Dale H. Miller, Jr., Pastor John Byers, and Rev. Richard L. Reese will officiate. Interment will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Monday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newburg First Church of God at 260 Newburg Road Newburg, PA 17240.
