Gary David Rupert, 87, Chambersburg, passed away February 27, 2021 at Menno Haven Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg.
Born April 27, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late David T. and Helen B. Rupert.
Gary was a 1951 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Shippensburg Teachers College (now Shippensburg University) and Master’s Degree from Western Maryland College. Gary taught English and Reading for Shippensburg Junior High School for 36 years, retiring in 1993. He also worked part time for Exxon.
He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves.
He was a member of Newburg United Methodist Church, where he was a Church School Teacher, Trustee, and served on the Administrative Board.
Gary was a volunteer for Chambersburg Hospital, the former Franklin County Visitors Center, the Franklin County Heritage Center, and the Salvation Army. His favorite hobby was Baseball history.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joanna H. Rupert whom he married September 1, 1954; one son, David F. (wife Deborah) Rupert, Harrisburg; one daughter, Jane E. (husband Allan) Dutton, Lancaster; four granddaughters; one grandson; one great granddaughter; and two great grandsons.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
