Gary Lee Devor, 77, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center.
He was born on February 9, 1945, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Miles and Anna K. (Strayer) Devor. Gary was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on July 3, 1963 and honorably discharged on June 30, 1967.
For a period of time, Gary worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, but spent most of his life working as a self-employed painter.
Gary loved all sports, especially football and rooting for his favorite teams, the Las Vegas Raiders and Penn State Nittany Lions.
He is survived by three sisters, Janell Sprecher of Shippensburg, Dixie Summers of Alaska, and Wanda Smith and husband Terry of Mercersburg; many nieces and nephews; his best friend, Pamela Bilger; and her children, Gabe (Gary’s Godson), Keyanni; and Ashley.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Devor, Jr; three brothers, Donald Devor, Carl Devor, and Miles “Bug” Devor, Jr.; and two sisters, Shirley Kuhlman and Lois Noel.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, aides, and everyone else at the Medical Center for their excellent care of Gary during his lengthy stay there.
