Galen Staver

Galen P. Staver, 90, of Shippensburg, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at home.

Born November 1, 1922 in Lurgan Township, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Paul and Dorothy Baker Staver.

Galen was a member of Grace United Church of Christ since 1944, and was a former Deacon and Elder. He retired from Novinger in Harrisburg in 1984 with over 40 years of service. Galen was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #287, Harrisburg. He was a life member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Co. and Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, a charter member of the Shippensburg Community Fair Association.

After retiring he worked in construction until 2009. Galen enjoyed golfing and had a hole in one on March 13, 1986 at the Sea Palms Resort in Georgia and was a former member of the Chambersburg Country Club.

He is survived by his wife Mae E. Ocker Staver whom he married April 1, 1977, Galen is also survived by two daughters, Brenda Cummings and her husband Gary of Chambersburg and Doris Clauser and her husband Steven of Dillsburg; one son, Gary Keeseman and his wife Cindy of Shippensburg; four granddaughters, Tonya Rideout, Heidi Cummings, Tracey Ierulli and Amber Cenci; two grandsons, Jason and Michael Clauser; five great grandchildren, Evan, Caleb, Jillian, Grace, and Katelyn, four sisters, Virginia Fry, Evelyn Fuller, Jean Bughman, and Phyllis Douglas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg at 10:30 a.m.. Officiating will be The Rev. George W. Heckard. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
