Galen Currens

Galen R. Currens, 87 of Harrisburg, formerly of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in his home.
Born March 5, 1923 in Shippensburg; he was a son of the late Robert M. and Grace A. Martz Currens.

Galen was a retired manager at SKF Industries, Shippensburg and was a member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Fort Morris Chapter A.A.R.P., Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315, F. & A.M., and Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Galen was past president of the Shippensburg United Way, former member of the Shippensburg Water Authority, former Shippensburg Borough Councilman, past president and former member of the Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club.

He was a 1940 graduate of Shippensburg High School and a 1944 graduate of Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Krieg Currens, one son, John R. Currens of Lancaster, two daughters; Ann C. Currens of Swarthmore, and Jane E. Hays of Mechanicsburg, one step son, Daniel K. Stacks of Mechanicsburg, two step daughters; Pamela A. Brindley of Follansbee, WV, and Kimberly A. Wallick of Camp Hill, one sister, Hazel Miller of Chambersburg, four nephews; Michael Miller of Morgantown, WV, Walter Miller of Camp Hill, John Hubley of Camp Hill, and Joseph Hubley of Shippensburg, one niece, Laura Ellis of Virginia Beach, VA, two grandchildren, six step- grandchildren, and one great- granddaughter.

Galen was preceded in death by his first wife Esther Malamos Currens who died September 16, 1986.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 in the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Robert L. Rhoades and The Rev. Brian Medkeff-Rose. Burial with masonic services conducted by the Cumberland Valley Lodge will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation.
