Frederick L. Nordai, 75, of Chambersburg, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Born Friday, December 10, 1948, in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Julius and Ruth Irene (Myers) Nordai. He married the love of his life, Stephanie J. Nordai on August 22, 1970, in Hummelstown and spent 54 beautiful years together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Christopher and wife Brooke Nordai of Harrisburg, daughter Laura Nordai of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren: Ava Nordai, and Maxwell Nordai of Harrisburg and grand-dog Tippy Nordai of Mechanicsburg; a brother, William and wife Lois Nordai of Harrisburg, a sister, Joyce and husband Michael McBeth of Hummelstown and nieces and nephews.

Fred was graduated from Central Dauphin High School and what is now Shippensburg University. He attended Northern Illinois University receiving a master’s degree in mathematics and then the University of Florida for a master’s degree in applied mathematics. He worked at the Naval Surface Weapons Station in Dahlgren, VA, for several years before attending Virginia Tech University obtaining a PH. D in Operations Research.

Fred became a professor at Shippensburg University in the then Math/Computer Science department, enjoying teaching the advanced mathematics courses and eventually becoming the chairman of the math department.

He also graduated from ROTC while at Northern Illinois in 1972, and went on to serve in the US Army Reserves in Virginia and Pennsylvania for 28 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

Fred was an elder and member of the choir at Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the Shippensburg Lions Club and was part of a Music Appreciation Group in Carlisle. He was proud to be a member of the Towne Singers of Chambersburg.

Fred loved spending time with his family, relaxing at his cabin, traveling with his wife and friends, reading and listening to, learning about and talking music. He loved his children and grandchildren (especially the trip to Disney World), ice cream and anything chocolate. He had many wonderful friends, a great sense of humor and was as generous and caring as they come.
