Fred L. Hockenberry, 83, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 at home. He was born September 27, 1937, son of Cloyd E. and Esther K. Burkholder Hockenberry. He was a 1955 graduate of Shippensburg High School and a veteran, serving in the United States Army. Fred was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and Christ Crusaders Sunday School in Chambersburg, PA for over 50 years.
Fred was a self-employed electrician serving residential and commercial customers. He served as electrician for the Shippensburg Community Fair for several decades. Fred loved spending time with his family, hunting, target-shooting, and square and round dancing.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. (Curtis) Lahr of Kinzers, PA and Brenda J. (Matthew) Johnson of Mt. Wolf, PA; four grandsons, Aaron Lahr, Alexander Lahr, Noah Johnson, and Isaac Johnson, a sister, Leora Shrawder of Shippensburg, PA and a brother, Eugene Hockenberry of Chambersburg, PA.
In additions to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marian R. Hockenberry, and two brothers, Elwood Hockenberry and Ray Hockenberry.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Garry L. Culler. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg, as well as one hour prior the service on Saturday at the church.
