Frank R. Lerew, 93, of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in the William Penn Personal Care Center, Jeannette, PA.
Born December 27, 1922 in Dillsburg, he was a son of the late Frank R., Sr. and Clara Miller Lerew.
Frank taught Agriculture at the Shippensburg Area Senior High School from 1949 until his retirement in 1982. He was a 1942 graduate of Dillsburg High School, a 1949 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, and earned his Master’s degree in Agriculture in 1954 from the Pennsylvania State University.
He was President of the Shippensburg Community Fair for 50 years.
Frank was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F & AM, Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club, PA State Retired Teachers Association, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, and Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168. He was a life member of the National Education Association and a United States Army veteran of World War 2.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hamm Lerew, who died April 28, 2006.
He is survived by one son, Richard T. Lerew and his wife Gaynell, of Jeannette, one brother, Vernon Lerew, of York, one sister, Erdena McClure, of Dillsburg, two granddaughters, Jenna Osman and her husband James, of Irwin, and Alyssa Stofko and her husband Christian, of Wallingford. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, William H. Lerew, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Grace United Church of Christ at 11:00 am. The Rev. George W. Heckard will officiate. Burial will be in Dillsburg Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion. Viewing will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 pm in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, with Masonic services conducted at 7:30.
