Floyd Theodore Proctor, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 29 at the Orrstown Personal Care Home, Orrstown, PA where he resided since 2021.
Floyd was born on Sunday, August 23, 1931 in Asbury, Warren County, NJ to the late Frank and Lillian (Hornbaker) Proctor. He was the youngest of four sons. His brothers Harry, Eugene, and Russell Proctor all predeceased him.
He attended schools and lived most of his childhood in the farming community of Hunterdon County, NJ. Having grown up on a farm himself, he continued farming throughout his younger adult years. In later years as a self-employed contractor, he owned a successful business for over thirty years.
While residing in Hackettstown, NJ, he and his wife, the former Ada Allen raised a family of 3 children. With his wife by his side, they enjoyed traveling together throughout the U.S. He participated in many community and church related organizations. He was an asset to his community by offering his time and talents to various volunteer endeavors.
After his retirement, he relocated to Shippensburg, PA where he resided for nearly 30 years. Floyd continued to utilize his carpentry skills and talents -turned hobby, as he created furniture, garden planters and ornamentation; as well as many assorted bird houses and wooden toys that he shared with neighbors, friends and family.
He also enjoyed round, square and ballroom style dancing and was a member of several dance clubs; both in NJ and PA. He was a member of the Oakville United Methodist Church, Oakville, PA. He was also a faithful attendee of Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg and later of the Mannassa Community Baptist Church, Blaine PA.
Floyd’s strong work ethic, astounding ability to repair or construct just about anything; as well as his prudent conservation continued to inspire and amaze those that knew him.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Ada with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage before her death in 2005.
Floyd is survived by his sons Wesley (Fawn) Proctor, Howard (Sherryl) Proctor and daughter Margaret Rowland (John), seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg with Pastor Richard A. Black, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, PA. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.
