Floyd L. Mooney

Floyd L. Mooney, 89, of Shippensburg, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010, in the Chambersburg Hospital Emergency Room.
Born on September 10, 1921, in Mainsville, a son of the late Brady and Curvey Russell Mooney.
On August 30, 1942, he married Ms. Hazel L. Gilbert in Hagerstown, MD.
Floyd served in the Pacific Theatre, during WW II, with the U.S. Army, enlisting on September 4, 1942 and honorably discharged on November 19, 1945.
Floyd was employed as a boiler attendant, at the Letterkenny Army Depot, until 1967, at which time he retired under disability.
He enjoyed gardening, especially tending his flowers. He also enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing, weekend poker games, playing the lottery, talking with his family and friends, and spending time in his pavilion.
Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Hazel; four sons, Floyd (Shirley) Mooney of Shippensburg, John (Donna) Mooney of Gettysburg, Walter (Ruth Ann) Mooney of Shippensburg, and Bruce (Gretchen) Mooney of Shippensburg; seven daughters, Jane (Phil) Pitzer of Fayetteville, Barbara (Harvey) Kiser of Newburg, Mary Mooney, Betty Helm, Nancy Martin, Bonnie Watt, and Connie (Terry) Faust, all of Shippensburg; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald E. Mooney; four brothers, Walter, Bruce, Gerald and William Mooney, and Kenneth Whorley; and four sisters, Ada Kirby, Dolly Kirby, Margaret Minnick, and Myrtle Zullinger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Robert L. Mentzer will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in the Cleversburg Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
