Evelyn Shearer

Evelyn M. Shearer, 87, of Shippensburg, died on the afternoon of Monday, December 16, 2013, at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on August 2, 1926, in Lurgan Twp., a daughter of the late George D. and Ethel P. Reed Beltz. Evelyn married Mr. Robert E. Shearer in 1942, before he left for the European Theater of WW II. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1983.

Evelyn was employed at several of Shippensburg’s former garment factories before working at the Shippensburg State Teachers College, as a custodian and then seamstress, retiring in 1979 after twenty years of work.

She faithfully attended the Ebenezer Church of God, Orrstown and liked to sew, crochet and garden. Evelyn loved to spend time with her family and was known as the type of person, that if anyone needed anything at all, she was always right there to help.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Linda L. (Walter ‘Cree”) Somers of Shippensburg; her son, Barry D. Shearer of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Robert W. Shoemaker, Erin Hosler, Charity (Colby) Fry, all of Shippensburg, and Kerry (Joe) Leurs of Newville; nine great grandchildren, Stacey, Megan, Drew, Mia, Orion, Savannah, Saffron, Bailey, and Mackensie; three great great grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, and Kylee Fetterhoff; brother, Pastor Charles E. (Betty) Beltz of Newburg; two sisters, Delores Smith of Shippensburg and Janet Whisler of Newville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Shearer, who died in 1987.

Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. Pastor Charles E. Beltz will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday, at the funeral home.
