Evelyn Byers

Evelyn L. Byers, 85 of Three Square Hollow Road, Newburg, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at her home.
Born Tuesday, August 24, 1926 in Newburg, Hopewell Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie Grace Mackey Singer.
Evelyn was a member of the Green Spring First Church of God, Newburg, and their Bible study group, Senior Life Fellowship and the Jolly Sixties. She taught Sunday school at the Newburg First Church of God.
She loved playing checkers, building puzzles, exercising, and staying in shape.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Jay C. Byers, three sons, Pastor John E. Byers of Newburg, Dennis J. Byers and his wife Linda of Upper Strasburg and Roger L. Byers and his wife Elma of Newburg, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters, one step brother and one step sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Green Spring First Church of God, Newburg, with the Rev. Dale H. Miller Jr. and the Rev. Philip E. Steele officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the church.
