She continued her teaching career in 1956, at the Mainsville School, and retired in 1975.

She was a long-time member of the Messiah United Methodist Church; a member and Past Matron of the First Court Chapter #470 Order of the Eastern Star, Shippensburg; a member of the Fort Morris A.A.R.P. #2525, Shippensburg; was involved in volunteering at the Shippensburg Historical Society and the Shippensburg Community Fair; enjoyed cooking for the family, gardening, sewing, and traveling with her late husband.

Esther is survived by her two sons, Richard F. (Beverly Ann) VanScyoc, Jr. of Fayetteville and William C. (Nancy) VanScyoc, Sr., of Shippensburg; four grandsons, Brock, Brent, Brooks, and William (Jr.) VanScyoc; two step-grandchildren, Vicki Foertschbeck and Geoffrey Miles; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. VanScyoc, Sr., who died on March 13, 1996.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star Service held toward the end of the visitation, as well.
