Esther S. Dunlap, 96, of Newburg, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Tuesday, December 1, 1925 in Newburg, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Anna Halter Hurley.
Esther was a lifelong member of the Newburg First Church of God, and sang in the choir for over 50 years.
She enjoyed yard sales and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved her daughter’s dog Gracie.
She is survived by one son, Roy L. (Susan) Dunlap; one daughter, Vonnie M. (Robert) Shockey, Jr., all of Newburg; four grandchildren, Wesley A. (Mikki) Swartz, Shippensburg, Mark W. Dunlap, Newburg, Tricia S. (George) Mandrick, Kelly A. Berrier, all of Shippensburg; two step grandsons, Tom Shockey, Waynesboro, and Dan Shockey, Frostburg, MD; one step granddaughter, Heidi J. (Mike) Beidle, Fayetteville; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Isabel Hockersmith, Newville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. “Dunny” Dunlap, who passed away April 9, 2016; two daughters, Bonnie K. Dunlap, and Kathryn “Toot” Ommert; one granddaughter, Tammy S. Swartz; eight sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newburg First Church of God, with Pastor Jim Moss and Megan Gustofson officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
