Elwood Linn

Elwood Dewey Linn, 88, a resident of Elmcroft in Shippensburg, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in the home.
Born January 9, 1923 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Ralph S. and Elva J. Eyer Linn.
He was a member of Ridge Church of the Brethren, where he served many years, delivering recorded services to shut-ins. Elwood was a post member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 both in Shippensburg.
A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, he served with the amphibious forces LST 840, which participated in major battles in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with two stars, the WWI medal, Victory medal, American campaign medal, and the National Defense medal.
Following his military service, he was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot. Elwood trained at the Coin Electrical School in Chicago. He worked for the U.S. Government in Nevada and California for many years and retired July 29, 1982.
Elwood enjoyed traveling, hunting, coin collecting, gun collecting, pinochle and hugs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Scott Linn, whom he married August 26, 1942, two sons, Elwood, Jr. and John, and two brothers, Glenn and Floyd are also deceased.
Elwood is survived by two sisters, Rhea Rebok and her husband Lee of Shippensburg, and Patricia Mowers and her husband Ron of Newville, and one brother, Edward Linn and his wife Janell of Shippensburg, four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and several foster children.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Ridge Church of the Brethren at 10 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Earl F. Stovall and The Rev. Harold E. Yeager. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion Posts will be in the Ridge Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the church Monday morning.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ridge Church of the Brethren, 1095 Ridge Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
