Elwood J. King, 66, of Newville, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born on March 17, 1945, in West Reading, Berks County, a son of the late Myron and Edna Stoltzfus King. Elwood married Ms. Freda C. Hege on April 2, 1966 in Hampton, PA.
Elwood was a self employed dairy farmer, who also was very good at carpentry and wood working. He loved nature, bird watching, and had planted as many as fifty different species of trees on his property. Elwood was an avid reader and was one who enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. He was a member of the Stoughstown Mennonite Church.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Freda C. King of Newville; six sons, Jay and wife Eva Jane King of Union Star, KY, Michael and wife Linda King of Hardinsburg, KY, Conrad and wife Ellen King of Annville, PA, Mark and wife Lucy King of Fruita, CO, Lowell and wife Phyllis King of Fruita, CO, and Jonathan and wife Susanna King of Smithville, AR; five daughters, Evelyn and husband Daniel Fisher of Dayton, VA, Orpha King of Isonville, KY, Elfreda and husband James Showalter of Farmington, NM, Priscilla and husband Victor Showalter of Loma, CO, and Rachel and husband Vernon Horst of Newville, PA; nineteen granddaughters; twenty five grandsons; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Catherine Burkholder of New Jersey and Karen Weaver of New York; and one brother, John King of Hagerstown, MD.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Irvin King, two grandsons, and his twin sister, Eleanor Faye King.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Blue Ridge Mennonite Church at 2514 Walnut Bottom Rd. Carlisle, PA 17015. Interment will follow in the Stoughstown Mennonite Cemetery. Viewing will be at the Blue Ridge Mennonite Church on Friday, March 16, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again briefly, following the service before the procession to the cemetery. The Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements.
