Elnora Mowery

Elnora Mae Manning-Mowery, 48, of Shippensburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Meritus Health Center, Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 16, 1963 in Chambersburg, PA, a daughter of Charles A. Manning and the late Barbara J. (Layton) Manning. Elnora was a 1981 graduate of James Buchannon High School, Mercersburg and was of the Methodist faith.

On December 15, 1994, which she proclaimed “the greatest day of my life”, Elnora married Mr. Robert C. Mowery, in Orrstown, PA.

Primarily a wife and homemaker, Elnora also worked for Ingersoll-Rand and Cressler Trucking, both of Shippensburg, Citi Corp., Hagerstown, and Transport America.

Elnora always tried to be a good neighbor and friend; coordinating the neighborhood block party, helping transport people to their doctor’s appointments, and sitting the neighbor’s pets. She was always ready to lend a hand, also volunteering at Menno Haven and the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, as a great lover of animals.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Robert; her father, Charles A. Manning of St. Thomas; her step-son, Edward (Melissa) Mowery of Newville; one sister, Debra (James) Kase of Chambersburg; one brother, Michael (Denise) Manning of Chambersburg; two nieces; ten nephews; and fourteen great nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Kevin E. Hughes will officiate. Interment will follow in the Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at church.
