Elmer Naugle

Elmer E. Naugle, 89, of Shippensburg, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg.

Born Friday, October 31, 1924 in Chambersburg, he was son of the late Carl A. and Nellie I. Campbell Naugle.

Elmer was a graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Bucknell University. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. After graduating from college, he worked for many years in management at the Peerless Furniture Company, then as the Fiscal Officer for the Student Association at Shippensburg University from 1962 to 1985, then retiring.

He was a member of the Chambersburg Country Club, Shippensburg Lions Club and a life member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg. Elmer was a board member of Peoples National Bank and later Dauphin Deposit Bank. He was an avid golfer and a true philanthropist. He established the Elmer E Naugle Foundation, which focuses on gifts, grants and loans to other organizations.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl A. “Judge” Naugle, Jr., and three sisters, Thelma Reddig, Dorothy Dick and Marilyn Burkholder. Surviving are eight nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. George W. Heckard officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council.
