Elizabeth Mae “Libby” (Arnold) Wright, 98, of Shippensburg, died Monday, October 4, 2021 in her home with her daughters by her side.
Born Monday, August 13, 1923 in Neelyton, PA, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (McCartney) Arnold. Libby married Jay Wright on June 28, 1953. She and Jay owned and operated the Shippensburg Recreation Center on King Street where patrons enjoyed bowling and roller skating for over 33 years, from 1950 until they retired in 1983. For many years, Libby was an avid bowler and she also enjoyed playing softball in the summer, going to the New Jersey shore with her sisters, cooking holiday meals for her family, and playing cards with family and friends.
She was a member of Mongul United Brethren Church and the Women’s Professional Bowling Association.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay A. Wright who passed away December 8, 2008. A daughter, Connie Getz; three brothers, Lester, Warren, and James; and three sisters, Catherine Shoemaker, Mabel Crouse, and Cleo Parker are also deceased.
Libby is survived by two daughters: Vonnie Cressler (Dave) and Nancy Oyler (Dean); eight grandchildren, Donald Yeager, Jr. (April), Melissa Patterson, Rae Sharrow, Brian Kane (Julie), Darby Burkholder (Chris), Logan Mills (Andrew), Dustin Oyler (Megan), and Patty Gochenaur (Ray); 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Officiating will be Pastor Gary Hornbaker. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
The family would like to thank all the personal caregivers who helped care for Libby for many years, and the staff at SpiriTrust Lutheran Homecare and Hospice for their support over the last few months.
