Elizabeth R. “Libby” Wadel, 85 a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, formerly of Scotland, died Saturday, June 26, 2010 in the home.
Born December 1, 1924 in Newburg, Cumberland County; she was a daughter of the late Thomas A., Sr. and Kline C. Sommerville Graham.
She was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren and was active in many church activities. Libby was very active in activities at Menno Haven and was the first president of their Ladies Auxiliary. She was a past secretary for Gideon’s Bible and was a local chairman of the Harold Tribune’s Fresh Air Fund for over 40 years bringing hundreds of children into the surrounding areas for summer vacations from New York City.
Libby retired from Shippensburg Junior High School where she was the head cook in their cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph I. Wadel who died March 20, 2006, and one brother Duane Graham.
She is survived by one daughter Jean E. Lehman and her husband Pastor Galen of Shippensburg, two granddaughters; Katrina S. Lehman of Taos, NM, and Twila F. Gerlach and her husband Randy of Newmanstown, two great–grandchildren; Austin T. and Amber N. Gerlach, four brothers; Thomas Graham, Jr. and Marlin Graham both of Shippensburg, Dale Graham of MD, and Donald Graham of Chambersburg, four sisters; Vivian Brewbaker, Helen Wenger, Delores Ann Graham, and Glenda Varner all of Shippensburg and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2010 in the Ridge Church of the Brethren at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Earl F. Stovall and The Rev. Harold E. Yeager. Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Church Cemetery. The viewings will be held Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the Ridge Church of the Brethren and one hour prior to the services in church Thursday.
