Elizabeth V. “Betty” Ott, 90, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Center, died on the morning of Friday, October 11, 2013.
She was born on February 6, 1923, in Middle Spring, a daughter of the late James Quiqley and Mabelle Crawford Means. A 1941 graduate of the Shippensburg High School, Betty married Mr. Elmer M. Ott on August 1, 1943 in the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1996.
Betty worked as a seamstress, for forty-four years, at the former Penn Pants and Marden Clothing Companies, retiring from Marden in 1985. She was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church for almost eighty years, sang in the choir, and was a member of its Eva Means Circle. In her free time Betty loved to grow roses and crochet.
She is survived by her daughter, M. Jean Jones of Carlisle; one grandson, Thomas H. (Donna) Jones, II, of Alexandria, VA; two sisters, Marie M. Holtry of Newville and Agnes M. Chamberlin of Orrstown; 2 nieces; 3 nephews; many great nieces; and a number of great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Donald G. Means, and son-in-law, Thomas H. Jones.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Kimberley D. Wadlington will officiate. Interment will follow in the Middle Spring Cemetery. There will be no public viewing or visitation, however, her family will receive friends in the church reception hall, following interment.
