Elizabeth B. “Betty-Dodah” Higgins, 87, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Chambers Pointe (Penn Hall), Chambersburg.
Born Thursday, January 29, 1931 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Catherine M. Ward Brookens.
Betty was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. Betty retired as Store Manager from the former S.E. Nichols Department Store, Chambersburg.
She loved going to the beach, baking Christmas cookies, spending time with her family, and attending all of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s activities.
Surviving are one son, Tom (Debbie) Stover, Chambersburg; two daughters, Robin P. (Kenneth) Shoap, and Jean B. Frazier, all of Chambersburg; three step-sons, George (Regina) Higgins, Sharpsburg, MD, Alan Higgins, Williamsport, MD, and Timothy (Debbie) Higgins, Williamsport, PA; one sister, Cynthia A. Lehman, two brothers, Robert “Bob” (Sue) Brookens, and Lynn (Rita) Brookens, sister in-law, Alice Faye Brookens, all of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max R. Higgins, who died August 6, 2018, one son, Robert L. Porter, Jr., and one brother, John F. Brookens.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202, with the Rev. Christopher Frye officiating. Burial will be
in Parklawns Memorial Gardens at a later date.
