Eleanor “Ellie” Edmonson Hoover, 89, of Newburg, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at her home.
She was born on Sunday, December 30, 1934 in Willow Hill, PA, a daughter of the late Frank Allison and Mary Clippinger Piper Edmonson. She lived in Amberson until her marriage to George Andrew Hoover. They were married on December 1, 1954 in the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church.
Ellie attended grade school at Center School in Amberson and graduated from Fannett Township High School of Dry Run in 1952. She was employed by The Valley National Bank in Chambersburg until her marriage. Later in her life, she was employed by The Marriott Corporation on the Pennsylvania Turnpike as an administrative assistant for 24 years. Ellie also worked with her husband and children on the family farm.
Ellie was raised Presbyterian, however, when she married George, she became a member and regularly attended the Newburg United Methodist Church. She was a member of Cumberland County Farm Women Group #21, United Methodist Women, and faithful soprano in the Newburg United Methodist Choir. Ellie also volunteered with the Newburg United Methodist Church Clothing Center, as well as the church’s daycare program, God’s Little Ones.
In addition to her husband of almost 70 years, George Hoover of Newburg, she is survived by three children, Dana George (Susan) Hoover, Mark Edward (Tammy) Hoover, and Lavon Teresa Hoover (Robert) Boden, all of Newburg; nine grandchildren, Kimberly (Aron) Shoap and Karen (Chad) McNew, both of Newburg, Devan Hoover of Shippensburg, Andrew (Clarissa) Hoover of Houston, TX, Adam (Brianne) Hoover of Martinsburg, WV, John (Chelsea) Hoover of Roxbury, Kyle Hoover of Newburg, and R. Ray (Allison) Boden III and Trent Boden, both of Newburg; 13 great-grandchildren, Kourtney and Kelsey Shoap, Landen and MaKenna McNew, Brayden, Jacob, and Joseph Hoover, Connor, Evaleen, and Fynn Hoover, Hunter Boden, Luca Hoover-Fischer, and Elia Hoover-Fischer who is expected in November 2024; one sister, Reba (late Wilbur) Files of Bellefonte; daughter-in-law, Debra Hoover; and numerous nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Fred Andrew Hoover, who passed away on August 19, 2016. Also preceding in death are two siblings, Vivian (John) Baker and Claire (Myrtle) Edmonson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Newburg United Methodist Church with The Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Newburg. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Newburg United Methodist Church and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
