Edward D. Armstrong, 93, of Newburg, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at his daughter’s home in Mt. Union, PA.
Born Thursday, September 1, 1927 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Brooke and Mary Sutter Armstrong.
Edward was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII on the USS Conner. He retired in as a mechanic from Letterkenny Army Depot.
He was a Post member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168 and a life member of the Minnequa Social Club, all in Shippensburg. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Trappers & Furbearers Association, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed deep sea fishing in Lewes Delaware.
Edward will be deeply missed by his grandson, Billy Fertney and his companion, Tatum Hockenberry who spent a great deal of time together.
He is survived by one son, Daniel E. (companion Tabitha Rice) Armstrong, Carlisle; five daughters, Christine A. (Ron) Welsh, Marion, Pa, Kathy L. Fertney, Orrstown, Bonita L. Bender, Mt. Union, Judy M. Armstrong, Florida, and June E. Armstrong, Carlisle; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Armstrong, Betty Weller and one grandson, James Brian Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
