On November 27, 2014 Edna L. “Nanny” O’Donnell left her pain here on Earth to be with her Lord and Savior. She died at her Shippensburg home surrounded by the ones that she loved.
She was born in Shippensburg on Friday, January 25, 1946. Edna was the daughter of the late Clyde E. Rotz and Martha (Warren) Rotz.
Edna Attended the Shippensburg Area School District, worked on her family farm, and started babysitting her siblings' children at a very young age. This led to a lifetime of dedication to babysitting and teaching them the basic values that they would need to succeed in life.
She was a former member of the First Wesleyan Church of Shippensburg and a current member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Chambersburg, and a member of West End Fire & Rescue. Edna was a devoted Christian woman that dedicated her entire life to children’s ministry. For many years she was the director of Club House Ministries, Junior Church, taught Sunday School Class, and was Nanny to hundreds of children.
Edna married her teenage boyfriend Charles “Butch” O’Donnell; also of Shippensburg. In 2014 they celebrated fifty years of marriage. She is survived by three children: Randy L. O’Donnell and his wife Carmen, Steven A. O’Donnell and his wife Stacey, and Melisa K. (O’Donnell) Miller and her husband Curt. The pride of her life was her seven grandchildren: Samantha (O’Donnell) White and her husband Paul, Kylea O’Donnell, Brandon O’Donnell, Trever O’Donnell, Kendra Miller, Colby Miller, and Kaylee Miller, all of Shippensburg.
Also surviving Edna are her siblings: brother Clyde Rotz and his wife Betty of Chambersburg, brother Bruce Rotz and his wife Pat, sister Kathryn Bigler, sister Grace Brown and her husband William, sister in-law Pauline Rotz and sister in-law Martha Rotz all of Shippensburg. Edna also left behind a large and devoted family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Melvin, Carl and Donald Rotz, her adoring sister, Margaret Hinkle, and her brother in-law Wallace Bigler.
The celebration of Nanny Edna’s life will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Jeff McCracken and the Rev. Dennis D. Chisholm officiating. Burial will be private in Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
