Edna Kerns

March 6, 1924 — January 24, 2017

Edna Elizabeth Kerns, 92, a resident of Penn Hall, departed this life on the evening of Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

She was born on March 6, 1924, in Newburg, daughter of the late Adam and Lenora DeShong Daihl. Edna was a 1942 graduate of Shippensburg High School and married Clare A. Kerns on August 9, 1946 in the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg.

Edna was a homemaker throughout her life and also worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm. Once she and Clare sold their farm, she then worked for Hardee’s in Shippensburg and the former Valley Pride Bakery. Edna was a longtime member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, their Women’s Bible Class, and helped with many church functions and meals. She was a member of the Cumberland County Farm Women Group #3 and the Shippensburg Civic Club. In her free time Edna enjoyed cooking, going to auctions, jigsaw puzzles, and gardening.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Clare; her son, Larry (Carolyn) Kerns of Shippensburg; two daughters, Linda Snyder of Chambersburg and Connie (Christopher) Army of Biglerville; two grandchildren, Nathan Fox and Emily Fox of Biglerville; two step-granddaughters, Abigail and Margaux Army of Gettysburg; one brother, Richard (Judy) Daihl of Shippensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Kingsborough.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Steve Livermore and Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah United Methodist Church at 30 South Penn St. Shippensburg, PA 17257 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
