Edna M. Hippensteel, 98, a resident of the Shippensburg Health Care Center, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Health Care Center.
She was born on December 4, 1913, in St. Thomas, a daughter of the late John and Reba B. Poe Pensinger, Sr. On April 7, 1934, Edna married Mr. David B. Hippensteel, Sr., in Hagerstown, MD. After sixty-eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death on June 22, 2002.
Edna was employed at the former Shirt Craft Co., Shippensburg, for twenty-two years. She also demonstrated Stanley Home Products for fifty years. In 1970, Edna began working at the Scotland School for Veterans Children, in the food service department, until her retirement in 1979.
She was a charter member and also oldest living member of the First Wesleyan Church for seventy years. Edna was very active in church functions, and also liked to quilt, go fishing, and enjoyed her flowers.
Edna is survived by two daughters, Nancy E. (Earl) Kline of Shippensburg and Patricia A. ( Rev. J. Calvin) Alt of Newark, DE; one son, David B. (Darlene) Hippensteel, Jr., of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda K. Luttrell, who died on March 12, 1999; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the First Wesleyan Church, Walnut Bottom. The Rev. Herbert Hartman will officiate, assisted by Rev. Stevan P. Sheets. Interment will follow in the St. Thomas cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at church.
