Edith Diehl

Edith L. Diehl, 94, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on June 7, 1930, in Newburg, the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha (Fogelsonger) Leirer. Edith was a 1948 graduate of Shippensburg High School. She married Glenn W. “Tubby” Diehl in July of 1951. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1977.

Edith was a homemaker throughout her life and also worked alongside her husband at the former Diehl Insurance Agency, Newburg.

Edith was a member of the Newburg First Church of God and their Ever-Ready Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Cumberland County Society of Farm Women Group #21 and a past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Farm Women. In her free time, Edith enjoyed many crafts and traveling.

Edith is survived by two sons, Robert D. Diehl and wife Barbara and John E. Diehl and wife Cheryl; three daughters, Patricia A. Diehl of Shippensburg, Elizabeth J. Diehl of Newburg; and Annette M. Bailey and husband Robert of Newville; six grandchildren, Beth Jones, Brooke Bell, Nicole Ginter, Erin Brennan, Hunter Bailey, and Ben Bailey; and ten great grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends are invited to attend Edith’s memorial service at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Richard Reese will officiate. Edith will be interred in the Ridge Cemetery, during a private graveside service.
