Earl H. Varner, 73, of Shippensburg, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at his home.
Born Monday, July 22, 1946 in Southampton Twp., Franklin County, he was a son of the late Melvin H. and Ruth E. Baer Varner.
Earl was of the Protestant Faith. He was a United States Marine Veteran serving two tours in Vietnam, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, where he worked as a Mechanic, with over 30 years of service.
He was a life member of the Hub City Club, the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, where he served as past Commander, the Durf-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Shippensburg Fish & Game Club. Earl was an avid hunter and fisherman, and really loved hunting in Virginia.
He is survived by one daughter, Earlann L. “Bunny” Wheeler and (companion Tom Wyrick) and two grandsons, Brady and Brandon Wheeler; two sons, Lonny L. (wife Tammy) Killian and Jimmie A. (wife Coreen) Killian, and families, all of Shippensburg; one brother, Glenn C. (wife Thelma) Varner, Boiling Springs; one sister, Mary Jane Wagner, Mechanicsburg; good friend, Sheri A. Crider, Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin “Pete”, David W., and Roy Daniel Varner; two sisters, Patsy R. Coy, and Janet L. Miller; and one grandson, Mason Killian.
There will be a viewing at 12:00 noon, followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen, immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
