Dr. Thomas Papoutsis

Dr. Thomas N. Papoutsis, 84, of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at home.

Dr. Tom was born was born in Waynesboro, PA on May 29, 1933 to the late Nicholas D. and Maria Alpoyanis Papoutsis. A 1951 graduate of Shippensburg High School, he continued his education at Dickinson College and graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry. After completing his military service as a Captain in the United States Army, Dr. Tom practiced dentistry in Shippensburg for over 40 years.

Tom was the third child born to a Greek immigrant family and was preceded in death by one sister, Zoe P. McCleaf. He is survived by one brother, James N. Papoutsis and his wife Ramona and two sisters, Dr. Magdalene Clouser and Cecelia Masney and her husband John.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Ettie Cressler Papoutsis who he married August 19, 1962 and three children, Mary K. Mowery and her husband Duane, Donald T. Papoutsis and Christopher T. Papoutsis and his wife Stephanie. He felt his truest blessing in life were his grandchildren: Lee Mowery, Chrysoula Post and her husband Jeremy, Evan Mowery, Alex and Cally Papoutsis. Tom was loved by them and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tom possessed a true sense of humor, a love of life and a deep spiritual devotion. He was a golfer, an avid hunter, a fisherman and outdoorsman. He and Ettie were able to travel extensively and particularly enjoyed visits to South Africa and Greece. In recent years he was an avid fan of the Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University.

Tom was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F&A.M., Shippensburg. He served as President of Blue Mountain Safari Club and was President of the Parish Council of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, PA. He worked endlessly and tirelessly for his church and many local organizations.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Camp Hill. Officiating will be Father Michael Varvarelis. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg at 3:30 p.m. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services at church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
