Dr. Leon Kreger

Dr. Leon W. Kreger, Jr., 96, of Chambersburg, passed away the morning of Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Village Square at Menno Haven with his loving family by his side.

He was born on April 9, 1926 in Liberty, PA, a son of the late Leon W. and Ida A. (Miller) Kreger, Sr.

Leon was a 1944 graduate of the Liberty High School, a 1950 graduate of the Mansfield State and Alfred University, and received his PhD from Cornell University. He retired as a biology professor from Shippensburg University in 1985.

He was a member of the Shippensburg Lions Club, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and the Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. Leon was also a United States Army Air Corp Veteran, serving in World War II.

He is survived by three children, Steven F. (Judith) Kreger of Chagrin Falls, OH, David M. (Colette) Kreger of Lakewood, CO, and Roxane M. (David) Lafferty of Southampton, NJ; and four grandchildren, Andrew (Emily), Alexander, Reed, and Laura Kreger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. (Mase) Kreger who passed away on December 29, 2018. Also preceding him in death is one son, Lynn M. Kreger and a sister, Audrey M. Kreger.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or service at this time. A celebration of life service will be scheduled at a later date and time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Public Library, 73 W. King St., Shippensburg, PA 17257.
