Dorothy Whisler

April 2, 1918 — June 16, 2013

Mrs. Dorothy Jane Whisler, aged 95, formerly of Shippensburg, PA, died peacefully on June 16, 2013 at the York Hospital after a brief illness. We are so thankful for the good life she lived and the opportunity she gave us to enjoy her time with us and we praise God for bringing her home to Glory. Dorothy was born April 2, 1918, in Amberson, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Wyrick) Alleman.

Family and friends were Dorothy’s passion and delight. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they have fond memories of summers at Grandma’s house and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with Grandma’s baked delights.

In 1937, Dorothy married the love of her life, Clair K. Whisler, owner of Whisler’s Lumber Company, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 21, 2006. She was a farm wife, worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD during World War II, a factory worker and her most respected position of all, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Alan C. and his wife Mabel (Hammond) Whisler of Waynesboro and their children Steve, Dana, Jeff and Corey, John S. and his wife Janet (Clevenger) Whisler of Newville and their children Randy, Sharon, Tammy and Rick, and Gary L. and his wife M. Baba (Molefe) of Jacobus and their children Mathias, Dorothy and Neil; a sister Esther Pisle of Chambersburg; dear friend and sisters-in-law Elva Nehf and Cleo and her husband Herman Spangler; 25 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Raymond, Russell, Paul, Walter, Elmo, Dean, Melvin, and Wayne; and two sisters Myrtle Ruth and Sara.

Dorothy was a member of Lurgan United Brethren Church and attended Christ United Methodist Church in Jacobus, PA; where she lived in the loving home of her youngest son Gary L. and his wife M. Baba Whisler for the last three years of her life.
