Dorothy V. “Dot” Powell, 89, of Shippensburg, died on the morning of Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on January 8, 1925, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late William and Orlinda Dunbar Kenyon.
Dorothy was a homemaker throughout her life. A wonderful mother, she dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family.
She was a long-time member of the Shippensburg First Church of God and its KYB Sunday School Class. She demonstrated her faith in Jesus Christ each day and led her children to the Lord at an early age. Thank you, Mom.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Klein of Shippensburg and Patricia A. (Paul) McClure of Doylesburg; two sons, John C. (Denise) Powell and Richard J. Powell, both of Shippensburg; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two more on the way.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jay H. Powell, Jr., who died on November 8, 2002; and four siblings, Fred Kenyon, Margaret Neff, Alice Easterbrook, and Thomas Kenyon.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc, Shippensburg. The Rev. W. Stanley Darrah will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Labre Indian School at 1000 Tongue River Rd. Ashland, MT 59003.
