Dorothy M. Sites Powell, 84, of Newburg, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born Wednesday, December 21, 1927 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late George O. and Mary Catherine Treher Sites.
Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and in the late 1960’s started a Girl Scout Troop in Newburg. She volunteered with the Children’s Release Time Bible Study and with Senior Citizens.
Dorothy was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church, Newburg. She loved her family very much and enjoyed sewing.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, James O. Powell of Newburg, two daughters, Jo Ann Littlefield and her husband Brian of Salisbury, MD, Janice L. Caruso and her husband Joe of York, two sons, Denny Powell of Newville, and Jerry Powell of Newburg, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Bair and her husband Shawn, Lauren Caruso, 1st Lt Richard Littlefield (USMC Japan) and James Littlefield, a great granddaughter, Evelynn Bair, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Houser officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.
