Dorothy E. McCurdy, 95, a resident of Chapel Pointe, Carlisle, formerly of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Monday, October 5, 2015.
She was born on August 14, 1920, in Bullion, PA, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Bertha Adams Hovis and graduated from Franklin High School. Dorothy earned a B.S. in Home Economics from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was married to Jacob O. McCurdy on June 17, 1953 in Grove City, PA. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1993.
Dorothy taught home economics at Cranberry Township Schools, Grove City Junior High, and Hickory Township High School. At Moniteau High School she taught adult evening clothing classes. She became a consultant for the Pennsylvania Food Services Department and was a homemaker throughout her life. Dorothy was a long-time member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn M. (John) Reese of Carlisle; grandson, Robert J. (Kelly) Reese of Shippensburg; sister, Charlene Hassler of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside funeral service will be held in the Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Spring Run. There will be a public memorial service on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, with visitation occurring afterward. The Rev. Kimberley D. Wadlington will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church at 135 Middle Spring Road Shippensburg, PA 17257.
