Dorothy M. Elder, 93, a resident of the Church of God Home, Carlisle, formerly of Shippensburg, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, January 18, 2013.
She was born in Beulah, Clearfield County, PA, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Johanna Lindenburg Miller. A 1937 graduate of Madera High School, she went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corp, enlisting on March 9, 1943, and was honorably discharged on November 24, 1945.
Early on, Dorothy was employed as a waitress at the former Burkhart’s Restaurant, then at the former Valley Baking Company’s lunch counter from 1963 until her retirement in 1984.
Dorothy was a long time member of the Shippensburg First Church of God and its Berean Sunday School Class, and a member of the Fort Morris A.A.R.P. #2525. In retirement, she liked to spend her leisure time reading, crocheting, and traveling when she was able.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna F. (Jack) Behl of Panama City, FL; one son, Pastor Edward L. (Linda) Rosenberry of Carlisle; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband C. Lester Rosenberry, who died in 1975; her second husband, Harry C. Elder, who died in 1996; one son, Robert A. Rosenberry, who died in 1991; three brothers; and two sisters.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastors Bradley Moore and D. Alan Mathna will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
