Dorothy Butts

Dorothy W. Butts, 90, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, died on the morning of Monday, September 8, 2014.

She was born on March 22, 1924, in Hopewell Twp., Cumberland County, a daughter of the late John and Mary Jane “Jennie” Snoke Davidson.

In her younger years, Dorothy worked at the former Shirt Craft Co., Shippensburg, for about five years before becoming a farmer’s wife and homemaker on the family dairy farm.

She was a member and former Sunday School teacher of the Newburg United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Cumberland County Farm Women Group #21. Dorothy volunteered for many years at the Shippensburg Community Fair, at the Home Ec. Building. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, baking, and gardening.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry J. (Gladys) Butts of Shippensburg; two daughters, Judy A. (Nelson) Heberlig of Newburg and Jenny L. (Robert L.) Thomas of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren, Lanette Hutchison, Randy Butts, Megan Watson, Kristin Gardner, Bethany Galante, Ryan Thomas and Lauren Thomas; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Butts, who died on January 16, 2013; five brothers, Harold, Roy, Frank, Harry, John, and Fred Davidson; and four sisters, Viola Angle, Anna Mary Shriner, Mabel Sollenberger, and Martha Bert.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, September 15, 2014, at the Newburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. and Pastor Stephen P. Salisbury will officiate. Interment will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday, at the church.
