Dorothea Houck

November 10, 1928 — January 20, 2016

Dorothea Houck, 87, a resident of Elmcroft, Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Wednesday, January 20, 2016.

She was born on November 10, 1928, in Orrstown, a daughter of the late Robert and Sara Piper McCleary. Dorothea married Robert Houck on November 12, 1949, in Roaring Spring. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1999.

Dorothea was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot in the Finance/Accounting Department for thirty years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg and spent countless hours volunteering for church functions, Meals on Wheels, and at the Village of Laurel Run. In her younger years, she liked to bowl in the local bowling leagues and play golf. Dorothea traveled quite extensively with her late husband and also after his passing to Florida, Hawaii, Germany, and destinations in the western United States. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. A very giving woman. A small lady with a very big smile.

She is survived by her two daughters, Robilee H. (Lester) Leedy of Maclays Mill and Lori (Chris) Houck-Cora of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Brett (Emily) Leedy of Seattle, WA and Aaron (Alyssa) Leedy of Rohner Park, CA; three great grandchildren, Evan, Cooper, and Oliver Leedy; four siblings, Charles McCleary, Katherine Coleman, Pauline Fry, and Paul McCleary; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothea was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Her funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. James O. Bolich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church, where a reception will also be held after her interment.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Street United Brethren Church at 17 North Penn Street Shippensburg, PA 17257.
