Doris Thomas

April 21, 1940 — May 12, 2014

Doris M. Smith Thomas, 74 of Shippensburg, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014 in the Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born Sunday, April 21, 1940 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Hazel Johnson Smith.

Doris was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church in Shippensburg. She worked as a seamstress for over forty years at various locations retiring in 2002.
Doris loved sewing and collecting Boyd Bears.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Harry Robert Thomas, four sons, Robert H. Thomas, David E. (Kathy) Thomas, Tim L. (Leslie) Thomas and Mitchell L. (Cathy) Thomas, one daughter, Karen K (Rodney) Baugher all of Shippensburg, three sisters, Patsy (Donald) Briggs of Chester, Judy (Blaine) Smith, and Linda (Gary) Gelsinger of Chambersburg, one brother, James Smith of New Jersey, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher L. Thomas who died in 2013, three brothers, Terry, Robert and Kenneth Smith and one sister, Janet Lindsey.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the Prince Street United Brethren Church, with the Rev. James O. Bolich officiating. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Street United Brethren Church, 17 North Penn Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
