Doris J. Ruth, 80, a resident of Green Ridge Village, formerly of Shippensburg, died Sunday, September 4, 2011 in the home.
Born May 23, 1931 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Lester F., Sr. and Ethel Mae Hoch Frey.
On November 18, 1950, Doris married Mr. John R. Ruth, Sr. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2002.
Doris was worked as a Deli Clerk at the former Cressler’s Marketplace, retiring after more than 30 years of employment.
She was a member of the Oasis of Love Church, Shippensburg and liked to volunteer for many church related functions, and a former member of the Shippensburg Jr. Civics Club. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and baking and she also liked fishing and crabbing while on the family vacations to Chincoteague, VA. Doris was a wonderful mother, always enjoying time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by one daughter, Karen L. Ruth of Chambersburg; two sons, John R. (Jeniece K.) Ruth, Jr. of Chambersburg, and Randy C. (Linda K.) Ruth of Edinboro; one sister, Patricia R. (William H.) Ruth of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son William Lester Ruth, a half-brother, Lester R. Frey, Jr. and a half-sister, “Sis” Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, September 12, 2011 in the Oasis of Love Church, Shippensburg. Pastor Nancy Hudson will officiate. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Her viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services, at church, on Monday. After the interment a reception will be held back at the Oasis of Love.
