Doris Jean Hamilton, 73, of Newville, departed this life on the afternoon of Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
She was born on November 29, 1942, in Shippensburg, the daughter of the late Herman and Sarah G. Deitch Reese. Doris married Arthur “June” Hamilton on December 21, 1975, at the Dickinson Presbyterian Church, Carlisle. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1984.
Doris worked as a floral designer at George’s Flowers, Carlisle, for fifty years, retiring in 2015. She was a member of the Oakville United Methodist Church and volunteered for many church activities. Doris was a former member of the Twin Maples Harness Racing Club, enjoyed baking, and spending time with her grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura “Jeannie” Salisbury Witter and husband Donald of Shippensburg; two grandsons, Tyler D. Witter of Ulysses, KS and Jeremy R. Witter of Shippensburg; foster sister, Geraldine (Robert) Shipp of Carlisle and foster brother, Richard (Donna) Hershey of Pleasant Hall.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Salisbury, and two brothers, F. Rick Reese and Elmer Ronnie Reese.
Private graveside funeral service will be held for her in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A public celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Oakville United Methodist Church. Pastor Josh Cartwright will officiate both services. Visitation will be one hour prior to the celebration of life on Saturday afternoon.
