Doris M. Dunmire, 83, Shippensburg, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in the emergency room of the Chambersburg Hospital, after a bout with multiple myeloma.
Born June 22, 1932, in the Broad Top region of Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Shannon A. and Grace Everhart Hedge. She was the widow of William H. Dunmire.
Doris was an auctioneer. She and her husband, Bill, operated Dunmire’s Auction in Middle Spring, for several years.
She was a long time member of Mainsville Church and was a member of Broad Top Area Coal Miners Historical Society. She enjoyed reading and solving word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara C. Thompson, and a son, R. William Dunmire of Shippensburg; her grandsons, Levi E. Dunmire and Noah E. Dunmire, both of Virginia, and Shannon E. Dunmire, Shippensburg; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Harry Hedge, Shippensburg, and Herbert Hedge, Hustontown; sisters Mary Thomas, Shippensburg, and Victoria Defibaugh, Chambersburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her son, Scott Alan Dunmire; her granddaughter, Maggie L. Dunmire; and siblings Myra Yingling, Robert Hedge, and Patricia Hawbaker.
Services will be held Friday, February 26, at 2 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg, with the Rev. Robert Mentzer officiating. It was her wish to be cremated. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the services Friday.
