Doreen E. Holtry, 96, of Orrstown Personal Care passed into eternal rest on February 25, 2024. Born on December 10, 1927 in Shippensburg, she was one of six children of the late Lester M. Wadel, Sr and Jean M. (Sowers) Wadel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Lester M. Wadel, Jr. and three sisters: Mary Jean Craig, Winnona Carver, and Louise Holtry.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Fisher (John), grandchildren Teresa R. Fisher Black (Robert), and Christopher L. Fisher (Sue); great grandchildren: Shea Lynn Fisher, Kierstin M. Black Witter (Michael) and Ian M. Black. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia Clever of California and a number of nieces and nephews.
She attended Shippensburg High School, graduating in 1945 and Thompson Business College, graduating from the Secretarial program in 1946.
She worked for The Farm Bureau (Insurance) in Harrisburg, 1946-1947; the Business Office at Shippensburg University 1947-1949; Lurgan Mutual Insurance Company (which was changed to Valley Insurance, Valley Mutual Insurance, and Green Tree), retiring in 1989.
She was a very active member of Messiah United Methodist Church as a teacher for the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children for over 40 years; as Secretary for the Christian Education Committee for 6 years (1976-1981); and served as Secretary on the Memorial & Gifts Committee for 20 years. She was a helper for the Church’s Jr Choir, helping them with their gowns for 15 years. She was a “Parent Community/Volunteer”, reading to students at the Nancy Grayson Elementary School (1995).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
